Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator (CESQG)
Additional
information for automotive repair and autobody shops who generate less
than 220 pounds or 26 gallons of hazardous waste per month.
The hazardous waste regulations that apply to you depend on the amount
of hazardous waste you generate per month. If you generate less than 220
pounds or 26 gallons of hazardous waste per month, you are considered
a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator (CESQG). While the Illinois
EPA does not require CESQGs to have an EPA generator identification number,
the Secretary of State, under the Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/5-301
(i) (4), requires all auto repairers and rebuilders to either have an
EPA generator identification number or a Certificate of Exemption. Therefore,
if you generate less than 220 pounds or 26 gallons of hazardous waste
per month, you will need to complete the Certificate
of Exemption (
PDF 6K file, 1 page) to keep on file in the event that the Secretary
of State should require proof of an EPA generator identification number.
The Illinois EPA does not require a copy of this Certificate.
