American Water Works Being Aquired by RWE

$4.6 billion cash transaction expected to take
a year to complete
American Water Works Co. Inc., that serves 757,000
consumers in 90 Illinois communities, is being acquired by RWE
AG, a leading international provider of electricity, gas, water
and wastewater management services, a $4.6 billion cash transaction
expected to take at least a year to complete. American Water Works
Co. Inc. is the largest publicly traded water services company
in the United States. The company employs 5,000 associates providing
water, wastewater and other water resource management services
to more than 10 million people in 1,300 U.S. communities.
Upon completion of the transaction, announced in
mid-September, America Water will be combined with the U.S. operations
of Thames Water, RWE's London-based international water services
business.
Thames water has more than 14,000 employees in 44
countries providing water and wastewater services to approximately
43 million customers. It is the third largest water company worldwide.
