Field OperationsGeneral SupportField Operations personnel support the other sections of the Division. Operator certification exams are administered by field personnel monthly in each of the regional offices and at community colleges following completion of course work. In addition, field personnel speak at operators' meetings and seminars. Questions concerning a prospective operator's qualifications or possible mis-operation problems are referred to a field person for initial investigation. Special investigations or meetings with water supply officials may be scheduled for assistance in permit proceedings with field personnel familiar with the water system. Proper submission of samples and operational reports are screened by FOS personnel; violators are cautioned and investigation for suspension/revocation of operator certificates of competency are conducted when appropriate. Interviews to determine competency of operators from other states seeking reciprocal Illinois certification are conducted by the field staff. This information is considered by the Operator Certification Advisory Board in responding to each reciprocity request. Petitions for variance from 35 Ill. Adm. Code, Subtitle F, Chapter I, Rules and Regulations may require a special field investigation. Field Operations personnel prepare technical data for enforcement cases and are called as expert witnesses in cases which progress to the hearing level.
