Drinking Water Operator Certification

Does My Business Need a Certified Public Water Supply Operator?

If your business operates a community water supply, at least one person on your operational staff must be certified by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency as competent as a water supply operator. All portions of a community water supply system must be under the direct supervision of a properly certified community water supply operator. A community water supply is defined as all mains, pipes and structures through which water is obtained and distributed, including wells and well structures, intakes and cribs, pumping stations, treatment plants, reservoirs, storage tanks and appurtenances, collectively or severally, actually used or intended for furnishing water for drinking or general domestic use and which serves at least 15 service connections or which regularly serves at least 25 persons at least 60 days a year.
