Establishment of Maximum Permissible Levels for Lead and Copper Rule Compliance
Any supply which fails to meet the lead or copper action level is required
to collect entry point samples representative of source water after treatment.
The results of these samples are used to determine whether or not source water
treatment needs to be installed or augmented to remove lead and/or copper from
source water. Those supplies which are not required to install or augment treatment
are not assigned a Maximum Permissible Level (MPL). Supplies with higher levels
of Entry Point results must complete a treatment recommendation, submit a formal
permit application and begin construction within 24 months after Agency issuance
of the construction permit. Follow-up samples must be taken and results submitted
within twelve months following installation of treatment; the Agency will then
establish an MPL by Special Exception Permit (SEP) for the system.
