Asks Attorney General to Pursue Legal Action Over Manure Spill
that Contaminated Creek in Bureau County
- The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has asked the
Illinois Attorney General’s Office to take enforcement
action following the release of livestock manure on a farm
in Bureau County last week, when equipment being used to pump
out a waste storage pit failed and sent livestock waste into
an unnamed creek.

of New Unit in Treatment Process
- The Illinois EPA has granted a request by the city of Polo
(Ogle County) for an extension of a 45 day provisional variance
granted to the rural community in November, allowing it to
exceed limits for three components of its wastewater discharge
while equipment for part of the plant’s secondary filtering
process is replaced.

- Illinois EPA Director Renee Cipriano announced that the agency
has granted a permit that will allow Tazewell County Landfill,
Inc. to begin construction of currently undeveloped areas
of an existing landfill into a municipal solid waste landfill
unit in Tazewell County.

Last Spring
- South Pekin, in Tazewell County, has been granted a 45-day
variance from limits on two components of the wastewater discharged
from its sewage treatment plant, to allow the community to
replace lagoon liners that were severely damaged by a tornado
last May 10.
