News Release - Intergovernmental Action Team to Coordinate Response to Groundwater Contamination in Downers Grove Vicinity
At the request of Governor George H. Ryan, local and state governmental agencies have been asked to participate on an Action Team that will coordinate response to the groundwater contamination issues resulting from sampling of private wells by the Illinois EPA in unincorporated areas near Downers Grove.

Total Maximum Daily Loads
A TMDL or Total Maximum Daily Load is the sum of the allowable amount of a single pollutant (nutrients, siltation, metals, etc.) that a waterbody can receive from all contributing point and nonpoint sources and still meet water quality standards or designated uses. On October 15, 2001, the Illinois EPA received a 90-day extension of the decision deadline for Kibler Development Corporation's application for a permit to construct a landfill. The receipt of the waiver moves forward the date of the decision deadline by 90 days to January 13, 2002.

The landfill, named Perry Ridge Landfill, will be located three miles northwest of DuQuoin in Perry County.

The Illinois FIRST program includes $50 million for addressing problems posed by 32 of the state's worst landfills. For the second straight year, the Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Program has issued more than 1,000 No Further Remediation Letters to tank owners and operators. This accomplishment signifies the cleanup of 1,769 acres in Illinois. The Illinois EPA will hold a public meeting in Elmhurst, Illinois, January 24, 2001, to discuss and seek comments on the status of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development to correct water quality impairments in the Salt Creek watershed (ILGL09).

Public Notices - Notice of Public Hearing, Texaco Refining and Marketing, Inc., Lockport
On November 22, 2000, the Illinois EPA gave notice of intent to issue an RCRA and HSWA permit to Texaco Refining and Marketing, Inc. A public hearing to address the proposed issuance of this permit has been scheduled.
